Replacement Parts Info. |
Per STI website: Recoil Masters & Springs TThe STI Recoil Master is designed to achieve softer recoil and bring the pistck to the point of aim quicker by using two springs for recoil verses the traditional single spring. The 5″ Recoil Master will fit all government model 1911 style pistols. (Some fitting may be required for non-STI firearms.) The 4.15″ and 3.9″ are designed for STI pistols only.Note: The primary spring on your STI Recoil Master should be changed out every 5000 rounds and the Recoil Master itself replaced after 25,000 rounds. Failure to do so can result in damage to your pistol. |
Magazine Springs Replacement Info. |
Per STI in an email 5/29/2014: In addition to the recoil springs you will want to change the mainsprings every 10,000 rnds or so. All your pistols will use 15lb mainsprings however the Grand Masters will require 3 coils to be cut off the spring for proper cycling. Beside that there really isn't any other scheduled parts changes, it's just going to be an as needed situation |
Thank you for your info. and time. I am hitting 11300 in my first Grand Master and 3700 in my second Grand Master I just purchased a spring tester from Dillon that does recoil and mainspring among others. Here is my current situation if you care to think about it and comment for me. In my GM#2(910) I am having some issues with magazine(s) feeding the rounds into the chamber, ok some of the guys around me immediately blame the magazines. I switched out all springs and followers for grams products - still the same problem. I tuned the followers. Yet, the same magazines work fine in my first Grand Master (#877). |
Notes on GM Issues | |
Red Dot Battery Issue on GM#877: Turns out to be a faulty Red Dot where the switch did not completely turn off in the off position. Recoil Spring: GM#877(recoil master spring tests at 10.7lb) GM#910(recoil master spring tests at 8.5lb) When purchasing replacement springs from Dawson, their recoil master replacements are only 8.5. For those competitors who demand the ultimate race pistol, STI International delivers with the STI GM. Incorporating unique features with patented 2011 technology and Trubor compensated barrel, the STI GM is a race ready factory pistol with custom pistol distinctiveness.
Originally only offered from the STI custom shop, the GM is now a available as a standard model. Built on the patented modular steel frame with a blue polymer grip, the STI GM utilizes the Trubor compensated barrel which is machined from ONE PIECE of 416, Rifle Grade, Stainless Steel. The Trubor is designed to eliminate misalignment of the barrel and compensator bore or movement of the compensator along the barrel threads, giving the shooter a more consistent performance and reduced muzzle flip.
The GM slide has classic scalloped sides, STI saber-tooth rear cocking serrations, flat top and slide lightening along the rear of the slide. Additional enhancements include STI’s RecoilMaster guide rod system, STI stainless steel magwell, stainless steel ambidextrous safeties, stainless steel high rise grip safety, drilled and tapped mag release, and hard chrome finish with color inlay in the engraving. The GM comes complete with a mounted C-More Railway sight with blast shield. An STI team shirt, STI cap, and factory grouping target are also included with the GM. The GM ships with one 140mm magazine.
Note on Ammo: The STI TruBor is designed and tuned for IPSC Major Power Factor grade ammunition. Factory .38 Super and .38 Super +P generally do not meet the minimum power and pressure levels required for proper operation of these competition grade firearms. For IPSC load data, visit Jeff Maass’ IPSC Resources Page.

I generally load 124 gr jacketed bullets .355 or .366 , 38 super for IPSC to make major needs to be above the charts or it comes in as minor . Remember bullet wgt X velocity must equal 165,000 . Now what are you trying to do , and what gun are you trying to run this in . There are a ton of reload data for 38 super 115 or 124 to make IPSC major , not all guns are built to handle this safely. My current load is VV 350 7.4 grains with a 124 grain jacketed bullet , comes out at about 170 power factor. |
Hi
Chuck I prefer Zero brand 125gr JHP bullets. .356 diameter. I used to use 12.4 gr. Of VV N105 powder, but it is too expensive. I am now using 8.8 gr. IMR 4756. Works well and a lot cheaper than VV. I use Winchester small rifle primers. Hope to make it to the range in a couple of weeks. Cheers |
David shared the following: for his 38 Super Comp Reloads Overall Length= 1.240 use 7.3 IMR 7625 powder and montana gold 124gn bullet Jacketed Hollow Point ( Montana Gold Bullets 3750 for $368.00 ) and uses Zero bullets for Match [ note Rosz is the Distributor) Starline supercomp brass, and don't clean the firearms but once a year. Keep them oiled and that powder is very clean burning with the 124 gn bullet. I use Federal small rifle, any small rifle primer will work, not so much for FPS but to help prevent the fire pin from punching a hole the primer and causing blow back. |
Case Gauge: EGW 50 Rounds $99.00 + S/H ( I do not recommend the 50 version). There is no easy way to move the rounds to a
box. The 100 round version sold elsewhere, also do not have a cost effective way to move the rounds to an ammo box.
